The APPA was consulted by the EMSB regarding the proposed Special Education staffing plan on Friday June 12, two working days before the EMSB Board meeting. We notified the news media on Monday June 15 after identifying that, should the budget be adopted by the Commissioners the next day, a total of 117.5 regular positions would be abolished. This would result in 68.5 Special Education support staff members being left without a regular position. A massive loss for our members and the special needs student community.
At the June 16, 2026 EMSB Council of Commissioners meeting, the proposed staffing plan was discussed at length. The item was subsequently tabled until June 25, 2026, allowing additional time for review and consideration before a final decision is made.
We will continue to keep members updated as more information becomes available following the next Council of Commissioners meeting.
