Training & Professional Improvement


The School Board reimburses certain expenses for APPA members for studies, retraining or upgrading skills, professional improvement and conventions and seminars through the Professional Improvement Committee.

Employees Eligible for Funding

Regular employees who are members of the APPA, including those on part-time or full-time leave, with or without salary.

Temporary employees who are members of the APPA, with a minimum of 6 months seniority and currently working in an assignment for the duration of the program, course, or activity.

Funding will be accorded on a first-come-first-serve basis. Should the budget be depleted within a given school year, no more requests for that school year will be accepted.

Training Eligible for Reimbursement

  • Part-time or full-time university or CEGEP programs leading to a diploma or certificate recognized by the Québec Ministry of Education: $4000.00 per year.
  • Non-credit courses for technology, software, language skills courses, retraining, upgrading and preparatory courses related to the APPA Classification Plan: $1500.00 per year.
  • Recognition of Acquired Competencies (RAC) : 100% of the cost per applicant per year.

First-Aid re-certification for the following classifications is funded directly by the School Board: Daycare Technician, Daycare Educator, Daycare Educator – Principal Class, Special Education Technician, Attendant for Handicapped Students, Interpreter-Technician, School or Centre Secretary, and Student Supervisor.

Support staff who are not part of the group of employees requiring mandatory recertification (below) are eligible for 100% reimbursement of the cost of the initial course and subsequent recertifications every three years.

The committee reimburses the cost of group training up to a maximum of $1500 per school year per department or service. Each department or service is limited to one claim per school year.

The Parity Committee handles funding requests for seminars or conventions related to the APPA Classification Plan by outside organizations. In exceptional cases, the committee may accept requests to attend events held outside Quebec.

Ineligible Expenses

The Professional Improvement Committee does not reimburse the following expenses:

  • Entrance fees to student associations.
  • Membership fees for professional associations and/or orders.
  • Instructional materials such as textbooks or equipment.
