FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

WHERE AND AT WHAT TIME DO I NEED TO PICKET?
You received instructions from the union by email and it has been posted on this page. You can also speak to your School Delegate or Liaison (see list of delegates and schools).
WHAT DO I NEED TO DO WHEN I GET TO THE PICKET LINE?

You must sign every day at arrival with your school delegate (see list of delegates and schools) make sure to have your employee number. (can be found on your paystub).

Delegates must send the attendance list to Eva Tubio at the end of the strike day (a picture or a scanned version).

WHAT ARE THE DOS AND DONTS FOR PICKETING?
  • Do be present on the picket line at the time that is designated by the union.
  • Do sign in at arrival with your school delegate (see list of delegates and schools) make sure to have your employee number. (can be found on your paystub)
  • Do dress appropriately for the weather, bring a camping chair, umbrella, blanket etc.
  • DO NOT DRINK ALCOHOL
  • DO NOT POSSESS OR CONSUME ANY DRUGS
  • DO NOT VANDALIZE
  • DO NOT BLOCK TRAFFIC

MOST IMPORTANTLY, MAKE SOME NOISE! LET’S BE HEARD AND SEEN ON THE PICKET LINES WHILE BEING RESPECTFUL OF YOUR SURROUNDINGS!

TEACHERS ARE ONLY PICKETING FOR 2 OR 3 HOURS. WHY DO SUPPORT STAFF HAVE TO PICKET FOR 6 HOURS?
The APPA has both a local strike fund and a CSN strike fund, unlike the teachers. Our strike fund has specific rules that we must follow to be eligible to get any money. For the action to count as a half-day towards the strike fund, we must picket for 3 hours.
CAN I BRING MY KIDS TO THE PICKET LINE?
We do not recommend that children be present on the picket line, as 6 hours will be too long for them. We do understand than some may not have any other option, but please try to find a solution!
WHAT IF I HAVE A MEDICAL APPOINTMENT?
For regular medical appointments (example: dentists, check-ups, blood tests) we are informing members to move their appointments. If they cannot be moved, a medical note will be needed and the CSN will expect you to be on the picket lines before or after your appointment.

For pre-op appointments or specialized appointments, a medical note will have to be provided to ensure the eligibility to the strike fund and depending on the time you will be required to be on the picket line before or after.

I HAVE A MEDICAL CONDITION, DO I STILL NEED TO PICKET?
For severe medical conditions (ex. Raynaud’s disease) a medical note will be needed. For any other medical conditions, you can make the picketing easier by:

      • Bringing a camping chair.
      • Dressing warmly.
      • Bringing a blanket.
      • Sitting as much as you would like.

ALL MEDICAL ISSUES WILL BE DEALT WITH ON A CASE BY CASE BASIS.

IMPORTANT STRIKE FUND INFO

APPA STRIKE FUND
For the APPA strike fund, you will receive a maximum of $120 This is equivalent to 2 days or 6-hours of picketing. Those who picketed on November 6th already earned $30 towards this total.

CSN STRIKE FUND
YOU CANNOT MISS ANY OF THE PICKETING DAYS TO BE ELIGIBLE FOR THIS FUND!

On the third full day of picketing (November 23rd) You will become eligible for the first weekly fund of $315.  This means that if we sign a deal on Friday November 24th, you will get the total $315.

 If we do not sign a deal by November 24th, the 315$ will continue until day 5 of picketing. If you miss any of the days without a valid and motivated excuse, you will lose your eligibility for that 5-day sequence. 

A new sequence starts on the 6th day that you picket. Your presence is required on the picket lines for 5 days to be eligible for the weekly fund of $315 from the CSN.
