Nov 6 Strike – Everything You Need to Know

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

AT WHAT TIME DO I NEED TO PICKET?
Everyone will be picketing from 7:30 to 10:30 am.
TEACHERS ARE ONLY PICKETING FROM 9:00 TO 10:30 AM. WHY DO WE HAVE TO START AT 7:30 AM?
The APPA has both a local strike fund and a CSN strike fund, unlike the teachers. Our strike fund has specific rules that we must follow to be eligible to get any money. For the action to count as a half-day towards the strike fund, we must picket for 3 hours.
MY SHIFT STARTS AFTER 10:30, DO I STILL NEED TO PICKET?
If your work shift begins after 10:30, then yes, you will be asked to be present on the picket line. If you want to have access to the strike fund provided by the APPA, you will have to be there. Since it will be considered a half-day, you will be entitled to 30$, regardless of whether you lose salary or not.
WILL I BE REQUIRED TO REPORT TO WORK AT 10:30?
Since the strike action ends at 10:30 a.m., you will be expected to report to your work at 10:31 to complete the rest of your normal shift. Your hours do not get extended. For example, if you normally finish at 2:00p.m., you will still finish at 2:00 p.m.
WHEN WILL THE STUDENTS BE BACK AT SCHOOL?
Students will be back in school as of 11:00 am. This means that everyone needs to be at their shift as of 10:31 am. So, for those who have shifts that are much later, you may go home and come back to the school at your regular time. As the parent memo says, there will be supervision at 10:50 am. The EMSB sent out a formal notice to the employees on November 2nd.

WHY CALL A STRIKE FROM MIDNIGHT TO 10:30?
As it was explained to us, this will be the only half-day of picketing that we will be doing. We were assured that the next action will be much more to our liking.
VISIBILITY ITEMS?
A distribution schedule was sent out to all delegates sp that visibility items can be picked up. If you have some laying around from the last strike, you may also use those. Items can also be picked up directly from the APPA on Friday, November 3rd until 7pm.
